Dick Whittington Down Under tells the tale of Dick Whittington, England’s most famous rat-catcher.
Dick Whittington was London’s best rat catcher, so good he became Mayor! He thought it was a dream come true, but after finding local government wasn’t quite what he imagined, found himself alone again, yearning for more. When walking down the West End one evening he looks at the panto posters and noticing a pattern, he realises what he wants to do and where he needs to go…. Australia!
Dick arrives in Sydney and quickly finds becoming an actor isn’t quite that easy. A chance encounter with Australia’s most famous canine (and local Karratha legend) reveals the one place where he can make it. Dick and his new friends set off on an adventure of continental proportions. Will Dick make it to the audition on time, or does someone have other plans?
Dick Whittington Down Under is a family friendly, re-telling of the famous English pantomime “Dick Whittington” with an ‘Aussie’ flavour. Full of songs, dance, zany characters & audience participation, this hilarious show has something for both children and adults alike. Not to be missed.
Dick Whittington Down Under was performed at the Red Earth Arts Precinct to a delighted audience of locals, FIFO workers and visitors from across Australia. Written and Directed by Chris Heaton, the show was produced by an entirely local team including cast, crew and volunteers.
